While weddings take place year round the bulk of them take place during the summer.  We have come to the end of the busy wedding season and it has been a great one.  Now its time for back to school and a great way to show your appreciation for teachers is with flowers.  As always Vaca Flowers by Suzanne has many varieties of bouquets and arrangements to choose from.  Our fresh cut flower Bouquets start at $5.00 and the majority of flowers we use are locally grown in Ventura county, some even right behind the shop in our own field.
Wishing everyone a great and successful school year!

"Where do your flowers come from?"

A question I get very often is "Where do your flowers come from?".  Fortunately here in ventura county we are lucky to have several flower growers.  The majority of flowers I purchase are grown by local growers, and by myself.  Yes I do grow different types of flowers in my field behing my flower shop.  While I mainly grow "filler" flowers such as daisies, statice, and eucalyptus to name a few, it doesn't get fresher than that.  Fresher flowers mean longer lasting arrangements and bouquets.  In addition to this, buying locally helps me keep my prices down and very reasonable.  Of course there are some flowers that are not grown here locally but these are still available through local wholesalers.

Valentine's Day 2012

February 14th is one of the busiest days for florists.  It is also one of my favorites because I get to create so many different arrangements and bouquets.  I am now accepting orders for both delivery and pick-up.  Feel free to call and place your order, or stop by if you would like.

Whichever florist you choose to use, here are a few tips :

On a strict budget? Let your florist know what type of flowers or colors you are looking for and your budget as well.

Order early!
More options are available if you place your order early.

Deliveries:
Make sure you have the exact address.  Remember that this is a VERY busy day for deliveries, if you want to place a "special" order do it as soon as possible.  If it is a proposal or a time sensitive delivery let your florist know.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Flowers aren't just for girls silly :-)

Thats right, guys love getting flowers too!  Its something different and probably unexpected.  I have yet to send out a delivery of flowers to a guy who didnt like them.  There are lots of ways to personalize floral arrangements by adding elements that your special guy likes.  For example sports themes,  or a gift basket surrounded by flowers,  the possibilities are endless and only limited by imagination and a little creativity.  So don't think twice about sending your special guy flowers.

Yes summer is finally here and the weather is getting warmer and warmer.  Unfortunately heat can really cause cut flowers to wilt and die rather quickly.  Here are a few tips that will help with caring for your fresh cut flowers and can be used year round.

1.)  Always give your flowers a fresh cut before placing them in your vase or container.
2.)  Do not place flowers in a hot place.
3.)  Do not place flowers in direct sunlight.
4.)  Floral preservatives are best to use in vases as the help keep water clean longer while nurishing flowers.
5.)  Always use unfiltered water as the minerals are a good source of nurishment for cut flowers.
6.)  Last,  give your flowers a fresh cut and fresh water every few days.

Some flowers that are a little heartier when the weather is warmer are carnations, statice, sweet william, and asiatic lilies.  Hopefully these tips will help you get the longest enjoyment out of your cut flowers during these warmer months.

Oh ya I almost forgot, Ii also like to suggest cleaning vases with warm water and a little bleach,  or warm water and vinegar.

Happy Summer!
Suzanne
